”He
has one of the world’s best noses” No wonder Hubert Weber deliver time
after time good wines to the Norwegian wine enthusiast.
Many
people are of the opinion that Carrascal is the best red wine buy at the
Monopoly taken price and quality into consideration.
Carrascal is made of a blend of malbec, cabernet sauvignon and merlot,
very French inspired.
However, Hubert Weber also deliver another wine which can compete with
is value-for-money candidate – namely Pedro del Castilla Malbec 2012.
A fresh, firm, fruity malbec which shows that this Argentine grape
doesn’t have to be heavy and clumsy.
He took is wine education in Switzerland, and graduated with excellent
results. It is said that very few candidates have managed to define so
many different aromas as Hubert Weber.
When he started as oenolog he didn’t choose Europe, but south-America
and Argentina. At the winery Cavas de Weinert he has made one wine
pearl after the other.
It is
now 20 years ago since I came to Weinert. It has been a fantastic
journey, as I have had the opportunity to take part in the further
development of the wines which
then was one of the star producers in Mendoza.
It was a actually a Weinert wine which made me take my decision to go to
Mendoza.
I had tasted the Cavas de Weinert Gran Vino at a wine importer in
Switzerland, and decided I had to leave for Argentina to find out how
this fantastic wine had been made.
And here I am , still after 20 years.
Bodega y Cavas de Weinert was founded in the 70ies by a Brazilian
investor with great passion for wine. He invested a lot of money to
upgrade the house and winery.
In 1977 the newly founded winery produced a wine which has legendary
status. Bernardo has chosen to mark special successful vintages with a
star on the label and give them the name Estrella.
We still have 350 bottles left of the Malbec Estrella 1977. An excellent
wine. But there haven’t been many Estrella wines during the years.
Weinert Merlot 1999 is my first and only star wine.
The next can be Malbec 2004. It is still on casks, but is approaching
launching. Cavas de Weinert Gran Vino 2006 is in the Monopoly shops. A
great wine to buy and put in the cellar.
Cavas de Weinert Gran Vino 1997 can be bought in magnum. An incredible
rich and complex wine with aromas of dark berries, flowers, stone
mushroom, mocca, cinnamon, and truffle.
This year’s Christmas present?
