Weinert Cabernet Sauvignon 2005

Score: 95

Province: Mendoza

Grapes: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon

Aging: 3 years in French oak

What do you get when you combine ungrafted French vines (almost unheard of in France!) with years of barrel age and exquisite care of experienced vintners? A flat-out stunner. The bouquet is full of the exotic perfumes of a Levantine market, with musk featuring prominently. In the mouth, itís a basket of blackberries and black and red currants, showing lighter and darker shades by turns Ė a shifting prism of flavor. The finish is long yet startlingly clean. As a package, itís the first 95-point wine on Argovino. Bravo!

Weinert Carrascal 2007

Score: 89

Province: Mendoza

Grapes: 40% Malbec, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot

Aging: 2 years in French oak

This wine gets the full benefit of its two years in oak with a nose pleasantly redolent of bamboo and water chestnut. The wine itself is light, yet it still carries a depth of flavor, with a flume of autumn spices at the end of each sip. Another wonderful value from Weinert.
