Hardly anywhere in the world it is shorter to the topwines than in Argentina.
Bodegas Weinert is on the best. Now they are great to drink.

Mountain wines which says six!

“About 1.000 meter above sea level, by the foot of the Andes in Lujan de Cuyo.
13-14 miles from Mendoza – lays Bodega y Cavas de Weinert.
And if you asked me who has made the best wine ever from the south-America,
then is the answer Weinert – Weinert Estrella 1977.
This was the wine that plotted Weinert on the map, just after Don Bernardo C. Weinert had established the winery in 1975.
One can still drink the 1977, which says something about the possibilities here.
I tasted it when I paid the winery a visit some years ago.

Weinert is a redwine specialist with special emphasize on Malbec, which is the main grape from here. Plus some Cabernet and Merlot.
Malbec is a very interesting grape, which is very good to meat and barbeque, but have a bit tough tannins in young age.
If the wines are not well made or stored.

There are at least 7 tannins – green and herbish, spicy, bitter, sweet, pepperish, astringent (try to chew a banana skin), says Hubert Weber who is on a Norway tour.
The tannins are important for red meat, as they desolve the fat, and the fat again mitigate the tannins.
However, there are many types, and Weinert and Weber would like mature tannins, concentration in the fruitness, but not too much:

The wines must not be so big that they are a meal themselves, says Hubert Weber.

The good with Weinert that also have great cheap wines as well.
From Pedro del Castillo Malbec at kr. 99,90 thorough Carrascal at kr. 125,- and up to Estrella Merlot 1999 to kr. 670,-
If I should choose one which would fit most consumers – it must be Carrascal.

Here are 3 wines, the rest and a further feature on Weinert and Estrella you will find on aftenposten/dinmat.no

58875 Weinert Pedro del Castillo Malbec 2009
6 glasses
“Dark, soft, rich, unoaked wine with black cherry and plums, nice soft tannins, hint of graphite, hint of black currant and red apples. Casseroles and barbeque.

32404 Weinert Carrascal 2006
6 glasses

“Cabernet/Malbec/Merlot mix with vanilla, leather, hint of tobacco, good spicy body, but with a clear, fruit seed. Universal wine to all kind of meat, lamb and just to enjoy a glass

34761 Weinert Gran Cino Reserve 2002
6 glasses
Still young, but firm and nice fruit, black currant and cherry, starts to get some leather, stable and vanilla. And also some coffee. Lots of tannin in the middle, but kept in check with a wall of fruit. To the reindeer.

58876 Weinert Estrella Merlot 1999
5 glasses
A wow-wine, with sweet blackberry, great integrated barrel, a lot of taste, but not too much. High alcohol, but still rather good harmony. To powerful food.
